Daily Breeze: USS Iowa Photo Series after arriving in the Port of Los Angeles, Jim Caldwell

SAN PEDRO — Crews were hard at work Monday getting the USS Iowa ready for its official opening Saturday as a museum at the Port of Los Angeles. Workers aboard the World War II battleship, above, find it takes a lot of muscle – and a torch – to loosen hatch bolts that haven’t been opened in more than 20 years. Gil Roscoe, above, is a school teacher spending his summer aboard the Iowa. And veteran Mike McEnteggart, below, wears a tattoo of the USS Iowa on his arm as he works with deck crews.
